The El Dorado South Hindu S.D.M.S. Primary School
In the 1930’s this institution, the then mud walls and thatched roof structure,
was the venue center for village meetings, panchayats and Hindu classes. In the
1940’s it was upgraded to a concrete structure and galvanized roof.
In September 1952, it was officially opened as one of the six government assisted
schools in the country, run by the Sanatan Dharma Maha Sabha. The other schools
were opened in Sangre Grande, Five Rivers, Tunapuna, El Socorro and Debe.
The first principal of the El Dorado Hindu School was Mr. Beerhsingh Bally, who worked with a staff of six teachers and a population of two hundred students.
The school was renovated and extended on three occasions to accommodate the increasing
population. In 1991, the El Dorado North Hindu School was built to assist in housing
the then over populated El Dorado Hindu
School.
On 13th March, 1991, the two schools were officially separated and now
function independently. Our school underwent the name change – El Dorado South Hindu
School.
During the months July – October 1999, the old structure was demolished and replaced
with an impressive, modern, two storey structure.
While the school was being constructed,
members of the community offered their homes as make shift classes. The school was
completed on 13th October 1999 and the pupils and staff were relocated
to the new structure. The school is now Daljit Moosai El Dorado S.D.M.S. Primary
School.
